Methodology
How Anniversary Atlas researches and recommends.
Three published lists anchor every entry. The editorial picks under each year are independent of the affiliate routes. The disclosure is at the bottom of this page, the footer of every page, and on each year-spoke.
The canon we cite
Every year-spoke entry pulls its traditional designation from the 1937 Anniversary Books Bureau codification, adopted by Emily Post in her etiquette guides. The modern alternate is from the 1948 Helen Marek list. The gemstone is from the 1957 American Gem Society standard. Where the American Gem Trade Association issued later updates (notably tanzanite at year 24, designated 2002), we cite the later source.
Cross-references include Wikipedia's "Wedding anniversary" article, Hallmark's published gift chart, The Knot's anniversary-by-year guide, Brides Magazine, and the Emily Post Institute. Where these sources disagree, we follow the older and more frequently cited source.
How we pick products
The picks under each year are independent of the affiliate routes. We do not accept payment to feature a product. Selection criteria, in order:
- Match to the year designation. A year-five wood pick should be wood. A year-seven gift should be wool, copper, or onyx, in the spirit of the published canon.
- Quality at the price point. We recommend objects that hold up. We do not chase the cheapest option that wears the right material.
- Availability across regions. Anniversary Atlas serves a global English-speaking audience. We prefer picks that ship internationally or have regional analogues.
- Maker credibility. Where the maker matters (jewellery, leather, ceramics), we note the maker. Where it does not (paper, cotton), we recommend by category.
Affiliate disclosure
FTC disclosure. Anniversary Atlas earns commission on some links. We never accept payment for placement and we do not sell jewelry ourselves. Affiliate routes are independent of editorial picks.
Specifically:
- Anniversary Atlas participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. Outbound links to Amazon may earn us a commission on qualifying purchases at no additional cost to the buyer.
- Anniversary Atlas participates (or is in the process of joining) affiliate programmes with Blue Nile, Brilliant Earth, Cameo, Storyworth, Masterclass, Virgin Experience Gifts, and Mejuri. Outbound links to these partners may earn us a commission.
- Editorial picks are selected independently of affiliate routes. We do not accept payment for placement in our editorial recommendations.
- The affiliate route cards that follow each editorial entry are clearly labelled as outbound routes and use
rel="nofollow sponsored"attribution.
If we have not yet been approved for a partner programme, the outbound link is unmonetised but still labelled with the standard nofollow attribution for editorial transparency.
Corrections
If you spot a factual error on a year-spoke entry, write to editorial @ anniversaryatlas.com (no spaces) with the URL of the page and a one-line statement of the disputed fact. We post corrections inline with the date of the correction, and we credit the reader who flagged it unless they prefer to remain anonymous.
